Peer-to-peer file sharing is currently a popular research topic. BitTorrent is one of the most well known peer-to-peer programs. The randomized mechanism BitTorrent uses for peer selection creates a randomly connected network. This paper discusses an improvement for the peer selection algorithm. The modified algorithm uses interest based locality amoung peers. To analyze the improvement of the modification a simulator was constructed which implements both the standard protocol and the modified protocol. Although the analysis revealed no substantial improvements over the standard, we are confident that further research is required to demonstrate the benifits of our algorithm.
